10 Malaysian fishermen receive hybrid boats worth RM300,000

The Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) recently handed over 10 boat engines, with 40 horsepower and equipped with the latest Syn-Hybrid Gas Generator technology, worth RM300,000, to fishermen in Melaka.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said the boat engine project was developed using the MOSTI Social Innovation Fund (MSI) under its agency, Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), in collaboration with a company, Amiran Technology.

He said the use of fishing boats using the hybrid system was a pioneer project as an alternative for a more sustainable energy compared to fuel.

“The boat engines will help the recipients save on their expenditure for fuel when they go out to sea to fish, as well as help to preserve the marine environment.

“This project will be commercialised if there is demand, and quarters wishing to work with MOSTI,” he told reporters after handing over the boat engines to the fishermen at a ceremony at the Kampung Hailam Jetty in Tanjung Kling here.

Also present was TPM Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Mohd Azman Shahidin.
