Kosmos Energy makes ‘large scale’ gas discovery off West African coast
Kosmos Energy has made a “large-scale” natural gas find off the West African coast that has multiple layers several hundred feet thick.
The exploratory find far exceeds expectations for the Dallas-based company, which targets unexplored areas, builds an early position and proves it up.
“This significant play-opening discovery validates our frontier exploration strategy,” Chief Exploration Officer Brian Maxted said.
The wells are drilled about 285 kilometers off the coast of Mauritania. The Tortue-1 exploration well was drilled down about 4,630 meters where it encountered several natural gas plays.
Five different gas fields range in thickness from 528 feet to 62 feet.
