Wood wins pre-FEED contract for world’s largest refinery in UAE
US oil firm, Wood oil company has been awarded with a US$8 million worth of contract by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) for a pre-front end engineering and design (FEED) in the Ruwais refinery.
Aside from the pre-FEED, Wood will also provide licensor selection, scope of work for the FEED phase, site master plan development and an EPC schedule and cost estimate.
CEO Jasem Ali Al Sayegh of ADNOC Refining says, “Today marks a significant step towards fulfilling ADNOC’s strategy of developing the largest integrated refinery and petrochemicals complex in the world. We are delighted to partner with Wood and to have their global expertise available to us. This a major milestone in the future growth plans of ADNOC Refining.”
The new refinery is expected to be the world’s largest refining and petrochemicals complex. It would be a state-of-the-art refinery with a capacity of 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Furthermore, the new refinery would be integrated with the existing refinery in Ruwais, a western region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Bob MacDonald, CEO of Wood’s Specialist Technical Solutions said that the new contract is a sign of a strong partnership between Wood and ADNOC.
“This contract also enables us to expand our footprint in the Middle East and supports our commitment to developing and enhancing local engineering capabilities in Abu Dhabi,”he added.
The pre-FEED phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
