Bahrain gets ready to develop solar power policies

The government of Bahrain has hired CESI, an independent provider of technical and engineering services, to support the country’s sustainable energy unit (SEU) and help with the development of technical and regulatory requirements to connect distributed renewable energy resources into Bahrain’s national electricity grid.

Bahrain’s minister of electricity and water affairs Abdul-Hussain Ali Mirza said that Bahrain has recognized the growing importance of renewable energy as demand increases. In particular, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have been a particular focus of interest.

CESI will give advice on connecting renewable generation projects, increasing solar distributed generators and speeding up the growth of the PV market. It will also monitor and control PV generators and provide recommendations on implementing a modified billing invoicing procedure.

CESI will also develop grid connection guidelines and standards for decentralized solar PV systems designed for low and medium voltage distribution networks, develop fire, safety and other international compliance measures and develop accurate certification processes and associated training programs, it said.
