HPCL to supply natural gas to Opal’s petchem complex
India’s Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) is expanding its presence in the natural gas sector and has successfully obtained a significant long-term contract from ONGC Petro additions Ltd (OPaL) to supply natural gas to its petrochemical complex in Dahej.
HPCL is said to have clinched the contract through competitive bidding against a tender initiated by OPaL, a joint venture of ONGC, GAIL, and GSPC. The contract entails the supply of 13.53 trillion Btu of natural gas to OPaL’s Captive Power Plant (CPP). The purpose of the gas supply is to support OPaL’s power and steam requirements.
The contract entails the supply of gas from October 2023 to May 2024.
HPCL adds it has ambitious plans for its natural gas business and is focused on building a strong foothold in the petrochemical and fertiliser sectors.
