OTC Asia 2018 to highlight Asia’s role in leading the global energy industry
The Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2018 will highlight Asia’s crucial role in leading the energy industry worldwide as it returns to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 20 to 23, 2018. was launched at a reception this evening.
The challenges presented by the current volatility in oil prices offer great opportunities for oil and gas industry players to redefine their focus, according to Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, OTC Asia Advisory Committee Chairman and Petronas President and Group CEO. “Now more than ever, Asia plays a vital role in leading the global industry into becoming more resilient. As we continue to adapt to the new energy era, this conference is an important platform to gain insights into Asia’s energy outlook and dynamism,”he said during the recent launch of the biennial event.
Continuing with the theme “Excellence in Asia” with Petronas as the Corporate Supporting Organization, OTC Asia 2018 will host engaging discussions and stimulating debates on various offshore energy trends and topics. The conference aims to look into what it takes to remain resilient and responsive to a dynamic energy market. Asia has and will continue to play a crucial role in both leading and advocating long-term sustainability for the energy market.
Neil Kavanagh, OTC Asia Oversight Committee Chairman and Chief Science and Technology Manager, Woodside Energy Ltd., remarked that the challenging market condition demands past practices and norms to be fully evaluated whilst seeking fit-for-purpose, affordable and innovative solutions such as digitization and new business models. “We are pleased that OTC Asia is returning to Kuala Lumpur. We expect to host more than 25,000 participants from over 70 countries; more than 450 thought leaders and technical expert speakers; more than 70 conference sessions with 350 technical papers; and with over 270 sponsoring and exhibiting organizations.”
Educational components such as The Next Wave and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs catered for young professionals and students, and the Spotlight on New Technology Award, which recognizes the latest and most advanced technologies from Asia Pacific, will be held in conjunction with the conference and exhibition.
New at OTC Asia 2018 are the University R&D Showcase for regional universities to showcase their R&D projects, and the OTC Distinguished Award program, which commends the major technological, humanitarian, safety, environmental, and leadership contributions to the industry.

The collaboration of 13 of the energy industry’s leading professional associations ensures a balanced technical program highlighting Asia’s crucial role in the global energy mix. The multi-disciplinary program features multiple high-level executive plenary sessions, panel sessions, country briefings, various technical paper presentations across sessions covering diverse aspects of the offshore energy resources industry and a leading-edge exhibition.
