RES to supply pyrolysis oil to Shell
Italian company RES has tied up with Shell Chemicals BV in a long term agreement to supply its pyrolysis oil to be produced at its Pettoranello del Molise chemical recycling plant, with deliveries to begin in June 2026.
Shell Chemicals Europe will not only purchase the entire output from the Pettoranello plant but has also secured an option for additional volumes of pyrolysis oil from a potential second plant that RES Group may develop in the future.
Equipped with technology provided by BlueAlp, the new facility will process up to 20,000 tonnes/year of waste, yielding nearly 15,000 tonnes of pyrolysis oil. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate annual revenues of more than EUR20 million for RES Group.
Three years ago, Shell Chemicals announced plans to build a new facility at its Moerdijk chemical complex in the Netherlands to upgrade pyrolysis oil from the chemical recycling of plastic waste, enabling its direct use in production processes as a substitute for fossil-based feedstocks.
Founded in 1989, RES leads a group specialising in comprehensive waste management, from selection to treatment and transformation, supporting regeneration, recycling, and reuse of waste as raw materials for production. The company operates three plants in the Isernia province, covering the entire waste management cycle except for collection.
